WINNIPEG – The players will play on but the playoff dream has died for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Acting general manager Kyle Walters admitted that Monday as he explained why the team dealt defensive end Alex Hall to the playoff-bound Saskatchewan Roughriders a day earlier.
The Bombers received Canadian offensive lineman Patrick Neufeld and a fourth-round pick in the 2015 CFL draft for Hall and a second-round pick in the 2014 draft.
Walters says Winnipeg gets a better CFL-ready Canadian offensive lineman than they could have hoped for in next year’s draft.
The six-foot-six, 256-pound Hall leads the league with 15 sacks.
The Bombers are 2-12 after dropping a 38-11 decision to the Calgary Stampeders last week and the Alouettes are 6-8 after a win over Edmonton.
