Government will build on established foundations in new Parliament: Harper

OTTAWA – Prime Minister Stephen Harper is telling his caucus that his government will stay the course and focus on jobs, trade and public safety as it heads into a new session of Parliament.

The prime minister is tweeting excerpts from his speech to MPs and senators in the hours before today’s throne speech.

He says his government won’t rest on its accomplishments and instead will go farther and faster in the lead-up to the 2015 election.

He says it’s important to stay focused and keep an eye on the long term.

Harper says Canada’s resources, skills and a widening net of trade relationships are working in the country’s favour and the government intends to take advantage.

He’s also saying there are no plans to legalize drugs — a dig at Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, who has talked about legalizing marijuana.
