The City of Penticton is looking at a proposal for redevelopment of the former Kampe property at 435 Green Ave. GOOGLE STREET VIEW

Major redevelopment proposed for former Kampe property in Penticton

  • March 17 2021 10:09:25

The City of Penticton is seeking public feedback regarding a land use change that would see redevelopment of the former Kampe property located at 435 Green Avenue West.

Council was presented with an application to develop two, six storey apartment buildings totalling 158 units on the site at yesterday’s, March 16, regular meeting of council.

The proposal requires an amendment to the Official Community Plan to change future land use designation for the property from detached residential to urban residential.

A rezoning application has also been submitted to change the zoning from small lot residential (R2) to medium density residential (RM3).

Development plans include two, six storey apartment buildings in one, two and three bedroom configurations. The complexes will contain 197 parking spaces and bicycle storage areas in addition to a community garden and dog run.

Interested citizens can find out more about the proposal and share feedback at shapeyourcitypenticton.ca.

Information sessions are planned for March 30 and April 9. If the land use change is approved, a development permit and environmental development permit will be required to assess and mitigate environmental impacts, a release from the city said today, March 17.

Steve Arstad

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
