Protesters call for Toronto Mayor Rob Ford to resign immediately

TORONTO – Protesters say efforts to strip Toronto’s controversial mayor of some of his powers aren’t enough.

Dozens of demonstrators gathered outside city hall Saturday morning to demand Rob Ford leave office immediately.

The anti-Ford rally comes a day after Toronto’s city council voted to take away some of Ford’s mayoral powers.

But protester Michael Bedford says the action by city council is not enough and that Ford shouldn’t be representing the city in any way.

Demonstrator Ben O’Brian says Ford’s stunning admission this week that he bought illegal drugs while in office, combined with crude sexual remarks made by the mayor while TV cameras were rolling, are yet more reasons for Ford to go.

On Monday, city council will vote on a motion that would see Ford’s office and budget essentially moved to the control of the deputy mayor.

Ford is threatening a court fight over council’s actions.
