Dukurs sets track record at World Cup skeleton; Canada’s Neilson finishes fifth
CALGARY – Latvia’s Martins Dukurs is opening the World Cup men’s skeleton season with a record-setting victory.
He set a track record with a time of 55.31 seconds on his second run at Canada Olympic Park.
Dukurs won gold with a two-run total of one minute 51.39 seconds.
Alexander Tretiakov of Russia won silver and Britain’s Dominic Edward Parsons took the bronze.
Eric Neilson of Kelowna, B.C., was the top Canadian in fifth place.
Canada’s Jeff Pain set the previous track record of 55.72 back in February 2005.
