Senators seeks an end to traffic jams at Cda-U.S. border

WASHINGTON – Senators are pressing the man nominated to become America’s next border boss on the issue of traffic-clogged crossings between Canada and the U.S.

They are grilling Gil Kerlikowske, President Barack Obama’s choice to lead the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency.

The few questions that dealt with the Canadian border were about increasing trade, not about adding new layers of security.

Montana Sen. Max Baucus, chairman of the committee considering the nomination, says there’s pent-up demand on both sides of the border.

He says he wants to see more border checkpoints staffed in his home state.

New York Sen. Charles Schumer has similar concerns about traffic jams at Buffalo.
