Kamloops got ten-year low for snowfall last winter

If it seemed like it was an unusually snowless season in Kamloops this past winter that's because — according to Environment Canada — it was.

Total snowfall in Kamloops during winter 2020 was 23.7 centimetres, making it the least snowy winter the city has had since winter 2010, when there was just 16.6 cm.

The snowfall median for Kamloops is 43.7 cm.

The numbers were compiled by weather historian Rolf Campbell from Environment Canada statistics.

The government agency also reports Kamloops has had only 0.2 millimetres of precipitation so far this month, while in February, the city got 10.3 centimetres of snow.

But we can put winter in the rear view mirror, with spring formally arriving over the weekend on Saturday, March 20.

The Weather Network spring forecast says consistently warm weather will be delayed in B.C. over the spring allowing for ski season to extend longer, however it could also mean a larger risk of spring flooding once an extended warming trend does arrive.
