Suspect believed responsible for Penticton explosions arrested

Penticton RCMP say they have found a suspect involved in recent explosions in the city.

Police arrested a man March 19 after the city was set on high alert by as many as three explosions causing minor property damage.

An exact number of explosions reported was not provided by police, who did say more explosions could have taken place than were reported.

"Evidence obtained during the course of this investigation resulted in the identity of a local 50-year-old man believed to be responsible,” RCMP spokesperson Const. James Grandy said in a press release issued this afternoon, March 23. “He was subsequently arrested, and later released after voluntarily speaking with officers. The man confirmed he meant no harm to the community. Charges are being considered and may be forwarded to the B.C. Prosecution Service for their consideration."

RCMP do not believe the public to be at risk, Grandy said, thanking residents for their patience and support.
