Sunny skies and warmer weather ahead for Okanagan, Kamloops

The Thompson-Okanagan region had a brief break from hot, dry weather but the region is getting back on schedule.

There were some cloudy days with scattered showers at the end of June, but the month was a bit hotter and much drier than usual. The temperature is supposed to turn up heading into next week as well.

In June, Kamloops, Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton had mean temperatures around 19 Celsius, roughly 1.3 C above normal.

All four cities also received around a third of the rainfall they normally do.

As we start July, the region is expecting sunny skies with daily high temperatures rising from the high 20s into the low 30s by Monday.

“Particularly towards the start of next week it looks like those warm, dry conditions really continue,” Environment Canada meteorologist Kyle Ziolkowski told iNFOnews.ca. “Then we’ll have to wait and see how the rest of the month of July shapes up.”

Ziolkowski said it doesn’t look like there will be a serious heat wave that would meet the threshold for a heat warning, which is around 35 C during the day and 16 C overnight for two or more days in a row.

“Temperatures will be approaching it. We’ll have to wait and see. Those details will become more clear as we enter the week,” he said.
