Bill Sundhu to be acclaimed as NDP candidate in Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo

The Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo NDP riding association will acclaim Bill Sundu at its virtual nomination scheduled for April 7.

Sundhu announced his nomination bid on March 1 for the federal riding.

At a virtual meeting on April 7, NDP members will acclaim Sundu as the party's candidate in the next federal election, according to a Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo NDP riding association media release.

"New Democrats are committed to winning back Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo, which was held by long-time NDP MP Nelson Riis from 1980 to 2000," Garry Worth said in the release.

Sundhu is a human rights lawyer who is counsel to the International Criminal Court and currently services on the UBC board of governors.

"The pandemic starkly revealed major gaps in our society and economy, which must be seriously addressed. Any recovery plan will be short-sighted and ineffective if it does not repair the foundational inequities in our society and address the crisis of climate change," Sundhu said in the release.

Conservative MP Cathy McLeod announced her retirement in February.

NDP house leader Peter Julian is expected to appear as a guest at the virtual event.

The nomination meeting will start at 7 p.m. over Zoom, but those who wish to join must register online here by April 3.
