Man’s body recovered following avalanche in South Cariboo

South Cariboo Search and Rescue crew members have recovered the body of a man who was buried in an avalanche in the Williams Lake area.

The rescue service recovered the body of the 37-year-old man who was caught in an avalanche on Eureka Peak, east of Williams Lake. The avalanche occurred March 29, according to a news release issued by the RCMP.

The man was with a group of snowmobilers when the avalanche happened and was buried in the snow. RCMP have not released the his identity.

Police say when rescue crews arrived in a helicopter, they found the site completely buried and were unable to set down. However they did find a transponder.

The site in the South Cariboo, west of Wells Gray Provincial Park, is not safe for public access, according to the RCMP.

The death is not suspicious and the B.C. Coroners Services is conducting the investigation.

RCMP said no further information will be released at this time.
