Truck drivers blame each other after Highway 1 crash near Salmon Arm

Traffic on a Shuswap section of the Trans-Canada Highway ground to a halt yesterday after two semi-trucks collided on a bridge and the drivers argued about whose fault it was.

Salmon Arm RCMP said in a media release the incident took place on the Tappen Bridge on Highway 1 near Tappen Valley Road yesterday, April 7.

"Both drivers of the transport trucks accused each other of crossing the centre line which lead to the collision," Salmon Arm Staff Sgt. Scott West said in the release.

Both semi-trucks and trailers were heavily damaged and debris and cargo was strewn over a 200 to 300 metre stretch of the highway.

The crash resulted in traffic delays on the highway as the road was cleared of debris and the semi-trucks were towed away.

West said that neither driver sustained any injuries other than "minor bumps, bruises, and scrapes."

Ben Bulmer

After a decade of globetrotting, U.K. native Ben Bulmer ended up settling in Canada in 2009. Calling Vancouver home he headed back to school and studied journalism at Langara College. From there he headed to Ottawa before winding up in a small anglophone village in Quebec, where he worked for three years at a feisty English language newspaper. Ben is always on the hunt for a good story, an interesting tale and to dig up what really matters to the community.
