The deer are back… on council agenda

PENTICTON — A citizen delegation is scheduled for Monday’s council meeting, to talk, once again, about Penticton’s mule deer problem.

Residents have been complaining about the growing deer population and looked to council for answers, but none have yet been given. There has been talk of relocating the animals, but others object they will just come back.

Councillors last brought up the subject a month ago, and got into a heated debate over whether action should be taken against the deer.

Councillor Katie Robinson was concerned the project would burden taxpayers because there is no way of telling when the project would end, since the deer would likely come back if they are relocated.

There are only so many measures that can be taken, and at the end of the day they are wild animals.
