Injured snowmobiler rescued near Peachland

PEACHLAND – A snowmobiler is recovering in hospital after falling off his machine and suffering serious injuries.

Just before midnight, Friday, Feb.27, volunteers from the search and rescue outfits in Kelowna and Penticton responded to help ambulance paramedics get to the injured man who had been snowmobiling in the Headwaters area west of Peachland.

The man seriously hurt his back and had some minor cuts and bruises, according to a media release from Central Okanagan Search and Rescue.

He was with a friend who called 911 and started a fire to keep in injured man warm.

“His companion made a big difference,” search manager David Crawford says in the release. “By being prepared and staying with him and keeping him warm he delayed hypothermia and shock, both very dangerous conditions that could have made the situation considerably worse.”

The injured man was evacuated to a waiting ambulance and taken to Kelowna General Hospital.
