The Vernon Regional Airport and the Vernon Flying Club are having a day of celebration marking the 80th anniversary of the airport moving to its current location on Tronson Road in 1946. The day will be celebrated with food trucks, prizes, and displays of a wide variety of planes, including new and old. There will also be an opportunity to meet members of The Snowflakes, Vernon’s local RV Formation Flying Team.

The event runs from 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday, August 23, and is entry by donation. If you’ve never been to the Vernon Airport, now is a good time to see what it’s all about. There will be plenty of information about services and companies that run businesses through the airport in attendance, with booths and stations set up during the event to learn about what the airport has to offer.

The airport was originally opened back in 1931 at the Vernon Army Camp, but during the Second World War, the airport was taken over by the military for training purposes, and the Vernon Flying Club solely ran the airport after the move in 1946.
There are currently no aviation schools running through the Vernon Regional Airport, and this event won’t have any schooling information available; organizers suggest Penticton and Kelowna for any flight school-related questions. A friendly reminder to guests during the event that pets are not permitted on airport grounds; service animals are welcome.
Parking will be available at Fulton School and in the vacant lot next to the sani-dump on Tronson Road.
More information about the event can be found on Vernon Flying Club’s website here.
