Kamloops RCMP are searching for a suspect after a dumpster was lit on fire in the middle of the night.

Police received a report of a dumpster fire in the North Shore at 12:46 a.m. near Wilson Street and Tranquille Road today, Aug. 19, according to a press release from the RCMP.

Police tried to put the fire out and looked around the area, then Kamloops Fire rescue arrived and put out the fire.

“In order to advance the investigation, we are releasing images captured by security cameras to the public in the hopes of locating and identifying the alleged suspect,” Cpl. Dana Napier said in the release. “According to the images, the suspect appears to arrive on a bicycle wearing a backpack and a hat.”

Rob Guido, owner of Drago’s Auto Pro near Wilson Street and Tranquille Road, posted security footage on social media that showed the fire and a suspect the RCMP may be looking for.

The footage timestamp shows the fire an hour before police received a report.
