New business coming to downtown Penticton

A couple of new Penticton entrepreneurs are excited to open the doors of their new furniture business in the downtown core in September.

Hayley Mullen and her partner Rod Riou have announced plans to open their retail endeavour in the building that formerly housed Grant King Mens Wear at 323 Main St.

“We leased the building and took possession May 1. We’ve already started to renovate,” Mullen says.

Mullen says they plan to sell medium- to high-end furniture, home decor, gifts, flowers and “all sorts of things" at Arcadia Modern Home.

“We really wanted to have something that’s attainable for everyone to purchase,” Mullen says.

She’s hoping for a September opening date, but first come major renovations and permitting applications to remodel the 3,300 square foot space.

“When we came across it, we thought it was the perfect space for what we want to do. There’s good flow-through in the store and lots of space for stock,” she says.

The couple are spending their time between their former residence in Squamish and a new residence here in Penticton as they transition to the city.

“Arcadia means harmony with nature. We were drawn to that name because of that. We love nature and sustainability, and we’ll be looking for natural products that we can source locally,” Mullen says.

Riou, who is a cabinet maker by trade, eventually hopes to create a custom line of furniture to complement the business.
