Tense moment for police ends without incident

VERNON – It was a tense half hour for police on Sunday as they tried to coax a man threatening to harm himself out of his home.

Around 5:30 p.m. police received a call from the 28-year-old man’s neighbours. He had apparently stabbed himself in the leg and was threatening to harm himself more.

He barricaded himself inside his 35 Avenue apartment. After half an hour, police convinced him to come out and give up the knife.

The man was arrested without further incident under the mental health act and transported to Vernon Jubilee Hospital for treatment of his injuries and a psych assessment. His injuries turned out to be very minor.
