Movie production heating up in Kamloops this summer

It's going to be a busy summer for movie crews in Kamloops with at least three productions filming from May to August.

The movie Just Clicked recently wrapped production in downtown Kamloops and another film is set to start production in the coming days.

“Productions are attracted to Kamloops’s diversity in housing and business areas, and the dramatic landscape of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc lands,” Thompson-Nicola film commissioner Victoria Weller said in a news release.

Odd Fellows Entertainment will start filming The Edge of Sleep in Kamloops within a few days.

Screen Siren Pictures, the company behind the film adaptation of Indian Horse and documentary The New Company, will be filming around the Kamloops, Cache Creek and Ashcroft areas.

“We are excited to be bringing projects to this region. We love shooting here," Christine Haebler, producer with Screen Siren, said in the release.

The project is a feature called The Ringmen about a family of livestock auctioneers, and it's expected to start filming in mid-August.

Death Pursuits will start filming in May around Ashcroft, Cache Creek, Merritt and Spences Bridge.

The Thompson-Nicola Film Commission said there are several more films scheduled to film in the area, but they cannot be announced yet.

“We’ve had tremendous response from Kamloops residents wishing to have their homes as locations, and we’re seeking more, larger family homes to aid upcoming productions," Weller said. "All productions need houses as locations, and we want to hire local, so now’s the time to contact the film commission.”
