iN VIDEO: Amorous snakes interrupt Okanagan pickleball game

Michelle Boyce had her pickleball match interrupted by a couple of frisky snakes earlier this week.

“My new partner is waiting to join me in a game of pickleball,” Boyce said on social media, May 6.

The Osoyoos resident was playing picklelball on the Osoyoos courts across from Osoyoos High School when someone came along and warned her of a couple of snakes just outside the fence.

“I went to look at them. The two snakes were intertwined, writhing, with one snake with its mouth around the other’s head,” Boyce describes.

She took some video of the snakes. One observer can be heard explaining the behaviour as mating.

The snakes are believed to be gopher snakes, often referred to as bull snakes, and it is the time of year when snakes mate.

“They eventually tried to disappear into a den that was under one of the parking lot concrete curbs. It was the strangest thing to see,” Boyce said.
