It wasn’t the crash that killed him

VERNON – A man who drove off an embankment on Highway 97 last spring died of natural causes, according to the B.C. Coroners Service.

Road workers discovered Victor David Genschorek’s overturned minivan May 30 on Highway 97 near Eagle Rock Road in Armstrong. The flipped vehicle had crashed down a 30 foot embankment.

B.C. Coroner Margaret Janzen said Genschorek, 59, showed signs of acute heavy ethanol intoxication, but that was only a contributing factor to the death. Genschorek died of cardiomegaly, a swelling of the heart. The reaction was brought on by a fungal infection in his heart valves.
