Andrew Scott, Kate and Mara Rooney to hit the red carpet at TIFF

TORONTO — Although King Street is open to traffic again as the Toronto International Film Festival reaches its halfway point, stars will still be out in full force.

Andrew Scott, Kate and Rooney Mara, and John Malkovich are among the celebrities scheduled to appear on the red carpet on Monday.

Scott, the “Fleabag” star, is promoting his new film “Elsinore,” which tells the real-life story of “Chariots of Fire” actor Ian Charleson, who pushed through his AIDS diagnosis while playing “Hamlet” at London’s National Theatre.

The Mara sisters are in town for the premiere of the buzzy “Bucking Fastard.” From renowned filmmaker Werner Herzog, the film follows sisters who speak in unison, dress alike and, eventually, fall in love with the same man.

Other films premiering include the animated “In Waves” starring Will Sharpe and Stephanie Hsu, and writer and director Martin McDonagh’s latest, “Wild Horse Nine,” starring John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell, who are both expected on the red carpet.

Meanwhile, Helen Mirren is promoting the thriller “A Talent For Murder.” Mirren was honoured at TIFF’s Tribute Awards on Sunday with an award inspired by TIFF’s women’s empowerment initiative, Share Her Journey.
