iN PHOTOS: Art walk adds to Penticton’s Okanagan Lake boardwalk experience

There’s even more to see along Penticton’s Okanagan Lake boardwalk than picturesque views of Penticton and the lake these days.

The city recently installed the seven newest additions to its collection of public sculptures, adding some artistic interest to an already scenic walk along the Okanagan Lake shoreline.

Manager of Recreation, Arts & Culture Kelsey Johnson says seven new art pieces have been included in a map of the city’s existing sculptures, now including sculptures in the Penticton Regional Hospital walk.

The city has a virtual tour available on its website that a user can log into on their phone. The website will locate each piece of artwork, and when clicked on the user can get information on the art piece and the artist who created it.

Kelsey says seven new pieces have been added to the collection this year, five of which can be seen along the Okanagan Lake boardwalk. A sixth piece is located at the Ellis Street roundabout, and a seventh piece is showing outside of city hall.

Kelsey says the pieces, which the city began exhibiting last week, will be on display until next April.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
