AFC Toronto earns Northern Super League playoff berth with 3-0 win over Ottawa Rapid

TORONTO — Lena Silano scored twice for AFC Toronto in a 3-0 blanking of Ottawa Rapid FC in the Northern Super League on Saturday.

Toronto secured a playoff spot and joined the Montreal Roses in the post-season of the Canadian women’s pro soccer league.

Silano struck in the 44th and 49th minutes for Toronto (10-5-7), which ranked second in the standings two points behind Montreal, and just a point ahead of Ottawa (11-8-3).

Sarah Stratigakis came off the bench to score Toronto’s third goal in the 82nd minute.

Keeper Sabrina D’Angelo, a two-time Olympian who has played for Canada for a decade, produced a clean sheet for Toronto.

Toronto carried an 8-4 advantage in on-target shots and produced 14 crosses to Ottawa’s nine.

Silano stripped Ottawa goalie Mollie Eriksson of the ball to score her first career NSL goal. Silano then booted a low bouncer to the right corner for her brace.

“I feel like as a team we’ve been working really hard,” said the Californian. “Press is something that’s our strength, so really happy that we were able to get a goal off that and just give us some good momentum going into the second half, and then getting another goal.”

Ottawa’s Delaney Pridham, the NSL’s player of the year in its first season in 2025 and the team’s leading scorer with five goals, returned to the Rapid’s lineup after missing five games with an injury.
