Buffy Sainte-Marie’s digital art exhibit coming to Penticton Art Gallery

The Penticton Art Gallery has a summer treat in store as it prepares for a showing of Buffy Sainte-Marie’s digital art.

The art gallery struck a grand slam home run last summer when it brought the art of Bob Ross to Penticton.

This year, the Canadian musician and artist's collection will be on display from July 3 to Sept. 11, as the art gallery opens seven days a week while the exhibition runs, according to a Penticton Art Gallery media release.

The collection is noted for its visual and intellectual brilliance and is considered ahead of its time, the gallery said.

"Buffy Sainte-Marie approached the digital medium as she has with every facet of her diverse career – with trailblazing ingenuity,” the release said.

Her work dates back to 1984, in a time when home computers were in their infancy.

She used the digital medium as tools for marketing and design, creating fine art with emotional impact through her own creativity and rising above the limitations of the software.

Limited edition prints of her visual work reside in permanent collections in the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum, First Nations University, the MacKenzie Art Gallery, the Isaacs Gallery, the Walter Glenbow Muesum, the Gallery for Contemporary and Indigenous Art, The Winnipeg Art Gallery and Gurevich Fine Art, as well as private collection throughout North America.
