Wildfire south of Lytton reaches 60 hectares, evacuation alert issued

An evacuation alert has been issued for a small number of properties in the Lytton area as a wildfire, now 60 hectares in size, gets closer.

The wildfire poses a threat to structures and residents at 10 properties south of Lytton, according to a Thompson-Nicola Regional District alert notice.

There are 35 personnel on site with four helicopters bucketing water on the north flank. Crews are working the ground to the east and south sides of the fire, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service website.

The alert is effective as of 11 a.m., June 17, to prepare residents to evacuate.

See here for full information from the regional district of what residents should do during an alert notice, and see a map of the properties potentially affected by the wildfire.

According to B.C. Wildfire Service data, the fire has reached 60 hectares in size and is suspected to be human-caused.

It's currently out of control and the steep terrain makes fighting the fire more challenging for fire crews.

Smoke may be visible to surrounding communities and those travelling on Highway 1, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service website.
