UPDATE: Wildfire near Peachland being held

The B.C. Wildfire Service is holding a blaze along Highway 97C.

The B.C. Wildfire Service reported the blaze is being held this afternoon at 0.3 hectares in size.

Linda Corscadden, who lives on Paradise Valley Drive, said smoke and flames could be seen from across the highway yesterday.

"I've always learned to minimize and have a get-the-hell-out bag," she said.

"If the winds change and it comes down hill, it's not going to take much to jump that highway."

Nikki Hayden, who lives on Trepanier Road, said she's been packing on the chance they need to evacuate. Planes were dropping retardant on the blaze, yesterday.

"We just have a backup plan, if we have to pack up all the birds we just want to ensure we have the cages ready," she said.

She also has roughly 50 turkeys and chickens on her property.
