Early morning blaze in West Bench
PENTICTON – The quick response by Penticton firefighters limited damage to West Bench property this morning.
Penticton firefighters responded to the report of a fire on Jonathan Drive at 4:36 a.m., Friday, March 6, Penticton Deputy Fire Chief Dave Spalding says they sent two engines with on shift crews, with extra staff called in.
The fire began on the outside of a double garage that had a studio apartment above, according to Spalding.
Fire Inspector Mike Richards says the fire caused considerable damage to the outside of the structure and progressed into the roof space before being contained. Some of the interior roof was pulled down, but the building’s contents were saved.
Preliminary investigation indicates the fire began in a nearby outbuilding that contained a pottery kiln. Richards said a gas inspector would be on scene next week to assist in the completion of the investigation.
Firefighters were on scene until 8 a.m.
No one was displaced because of the incident.
