Crews battling new wildfire near Osoyoos along Highway 3

A highly visible wildfire is currently burning out of control northwest of Osoyoos near Highway 3.

B.C. Wildfire Service says the one hectare fire, about eight kilometres northwest of Osoyoos, was discovered today, July 5. No word yet if it's threatening any structures.

There are four firefighters on the ground backed up by three helicopters bucketing water along with air tankers.

Highway 3 is closed in both directions between Nighthawk Road and Old Richter Pass Road, according to DriveBC. You can detour around the closure by taking Highway 3A at Keremeos or Highway 97 at Kaleden.

The cause of the blaze is unknown at this point.
