Wildfire west of Sun Peaks grows in size

A wildfire located to the west of Sun Peaks has grown to 10 hectares since yesterday.

The West of Whitecroft wildfire was initially discovered July 9 and was reported at 0.2 hectares in size.

There are seven personnel, four helicopters, air tankers and heavy equipment on-site, said B.C. Wildfire Service information officer Madison Smith.

“We have seen a bit more aggressive fire behaviour on site today so there has been a bit of growth today,” she said. "If it is windy that would be a contributing factor."

The fire is classified as out of control.
