West Kelowna neighbours avert potential disaster with quick response
The quick actions of residents in a West Kelowna neighbourhood may have averted disaster.
“We attended a small fire that was extinguished by the neighbours last night,” West Kelowna fire chief Jason Brolund said in a brief email.
“The cause was human and suspicious and the RCMP are investigating.”
Mounties have yet to respond to a query about the source of the fire but area residents have been very vocal about what they saw.
They say the man was behind a home in the Glenrosa neighbourhood and his unusual behaviour prompted them to call the police and start filming. That's when things got stranger.
In a brief video posted to multiple local Facebook pages, the man can be seen walking around with what appears to be a torch and it's been alleged he sparked a fire.
“Would have been much worse if it wasn’t for the quick response of all the neighbours with fire extinguishers,” Andrew Lee wrote on Facebook post that's been shared repeatedly.
“He was caught and arrested a few minutes after.”
