Evacuation order issued in Seymour Arm due to wildfire

Part of the small Shuswap community of Seymour Arm is being evacuated due to wildfire in the area.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District issued an evacuated order for part of the 100-person community this morning, July 22.

The evacuation order is in effect for the following areas:

• All residences within the community of Seymour Arm that are in the neighbourhood of Tranquility Bay.
• All properties east of Seymour Arm Bay Road and Seymour River Road at Bughouse Bay and including Tipman Road and Bradley Road and the boat-in only properties.

Regional district communications officer Tracy Hughes said since the community has been under an evacuation alert for days so residents have been prepared.

"We have had some people move out of the order zone and move to the alert zone and disbursing from there. We are not hearing any information at this time with problems with people getting out using the main forest service road," she said.

The Hunakwa Lake wildfire, listed at 1,100 hectares as of yesterday, is burning out of control to the southeast of the community.
