Suspected drunk driver with baby in backseat nabbed in Kamloops

An officer on patrol in Kamloops early this morning pulled over a woman for suspected drunk driving — and found a baby in the backseat.

The officer spotted a vehicle driving below the speed limit on Vicars Road in Kamloops at around 3:35 a.m. today, July 23.

“After following the vehicle for several minutes, the officer conducted a traffic stop and noted a baby in the backseat,” Kamloops RCMP interim media relations officer Const. Crystal Evelyn said in a media release.

“A roadside breath test was demanded by police, but the woman allegedly refused to provide an adequate sample, an act which carries the same penalty as providing a sample that registers a fail reading.”

The suspect was handed a 90-day driving probation and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days for not providing a breath sample.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to please contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2021-25186.
