Traffic backed up heading into Vernon due to vehicle fire

Traffic has been slowed down significantly heading northbound into Vernon on Highway 97 due to another fire.

Drive B.C. is reporting a vehicle fire between Kalamalka Lakeview Drive and Birnie Road. The northbound lane is closed for 1.7 kilometres as fire crews deal with the fire that witnesses stay spread beyond the vehicle.

Regardless, traffic is significantly backed up northbound and the southbound lane is still open.

A City of Vernon representative said that the fire is currently considered under control and crews are mostly in the mop up phase.
