UPDATE: Wildfire near Peachland now being held

A wildfire burning to the northwest of Peachland is now being held, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.

The Mount Miller wildfire is estimated at 3.4 hectares in size and is burning to the north of Highway 97C.

“Yesterday our crews saw some success in creating a good portion of the guard around the fire, and the objective for today is to continue working on that guard with aerial assistance,” said wildfire information officer Jean Strong.

The fire has been growing in the last few days, due to winds and dry conditions, she said.

When a wildfire's status has changed to "being held" this means crews do not expect the fire to grow outside of its existing boundaries, according to the service.

Lightning is the suspected cause of the wildfire.
