Two scams making rounds in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS – Two scams were reported recently in the Kamloops area and police are warning residents to be aware.
Fraudulent emails were received that appear to be from Revenue Canada, but they're not. As well, there are reports of people selling items online and receiving fraudulent cheques in return, according to a Kamloops RCMP media release.
Kamloops RCMP are asking the public to take measures to protect themselves.
Mounties say always initiate contact with an agency to confirm whether or not they actually sent a suspect email, using a published phone number from a verified source.
They recommend conducting transactions in person or, if selling on the internet, using a secure method of payment.
Every day in March the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre will highlight a particular scam on Facebook and Twitter to help citizens be aware of what to watch for.

Every time I list my basement unit on Kijiji I get at least two texts/emails from people living out of province requesting personal and banking information upfront so they can send a deposit. Typically they claim they want the unit is for their child or friend that is moving to town shortly. As soon as I tell them I won’t consider a tenant until I receive references and do not share that type of personal info via email they immediately stop contacting me – obvious ID theft scam.
