Learn about anti-terror legislation at TRU

KAMLOOPS – If you’re curious about how the new anti-terrorism bill might affect you, tonight’s presentation at Thompson Rivers University might give you some insight.

The proposed legislation, Bill C-51, would grant federal authorities the power to investigate terrorism by accessing the public’s private information, and allow that information to be shared among intelligence and law enforcement agencies.

Robert Diab, a professor with the TRU law school, will lead the presentation on the legislation tonight, Tuesday, March 10, at the university.

National security is one of Diab’s main areas of research. He has authored several articles about counter-terror law.

Earlier this year, the province’s information and privacy commissioner Elizabeth Denham called the legislation a “privacy game-changer” in a talk with TRU law students.

The discussion will take place at 5 p.m. in Old Main room OM3632. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
