‘Wagging tails, lots of licks’: Vernon dog control looking after 14 puppy evacuees

A complaint about excessive barking in Vernon turned into quite the tale for local dog control officers.

The regional district’s dog control got a barking complain call, Aug. 23, and officers arrived at the home to find 14 puppies and the mom.

Turns out, the dogs had been evacuated from Westside Road due to the White Rock Lake wildfire, according to a regional district media release.

The officers realized they could help and provided the pups with a place to stay at the dog control facility.

“Our mornings have changed in the facility – that’s for sure,” dog control officer Daryl Riva said in the release. “We show up in the morning to 15 wagging tails, lots of licks, and a lot more dog hair floating around than usual.”

The owner of the 10-week old shepherd mix puppies comes by daily to visit and feed the dogs.
