Owner of mystery snowmobile located

UPDATE: The owner of the mysterious snowmobile found in a Kelowna resident's shed has been found. Police say the sled was apparently stolen from a cabin at Beaver Lake.

KELOWNA – A Kelowna resident got a surprise when they opened their shed just before Christmas to find a snowmobile tucked inside, but unfortunately it wasn't an early Christmas gift and more than two months later police are still looking for the owner.

The snowmobile was discovered Dec. 23 in a shed on the 9000 block of Highway 97. In an RCMP media release, Mounties say the resident had no idea how the snowmobile got there. Adding to the mystery, a police check hasn't revealed an owner and the sled doesn't match any reported missing or stolen. 

"The investigator believes the snowmobile is likely stolen as there is damage to the ignition," Cpl. Joe Duncan says in the release.

The sled is a red 2002 Polaris Sport Touring model.
