Off-duty cop and son respond to screams for help while canoeing near Revelstoke

Two men who capsized their canoe on a lake near Revelstoke this past long weekend are thanking their lucky stars an off-duty RCMP officer and his son heard their cries for help.

The pair tipped their canoe on Griffin Lake around 27 kilometres west of Revelstoke at approximately 11 a.m., Sept. 6, according to an RCMP media release.

An officer with the RCMP’s forensic section and his 11-year-old son heard screams of help and found two adult men without life jackets clinging to a capsized canoe.

The officer and his son gave the two men life jackets and got them to shore where their families were waiting.

“I would like to express our gratitude to the officer and his son,” one of the rescued men told the officer. “They helped us remain calm and forever grateful.”
