B.C. gang enforcement team crashing biker event in Revelstoke this weekend
Officers from province's anti-organized crime squad will be in Revelstoke this coming weekend to keep an eye on a planned biker event in case it happens to attract any members of outlaw motorcycle gangs.
Officers with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit's Uniform Gang Enforcement Team will be in Revelstoke for the inaugural biker event this weekend, according to a media release.
The special enforcement unit said it has seen in the past that biker events can attract outlaw motorcycle gangs, which are connected to street gangs, drugs dealing and violence.

“In July of this year, Cranbrook residents witnessed two rival (outlaw motorcycle gangs) fight in a violent incident where five people were sent to hospital with stab wounds and resulted in a significant police response to prevent any further violence," the media release reads.
“Officers will be working with Revelstoke and area RCMP members to ensure that the public stays safe and there is no repeat of July’s incident. (Outlaw motorcycle gang) members often use events like this to promote their clubs, recruit new members, and intimidate others.”
The extra support is welcomed by local officers in Revelstoke.
"(Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit) works very closely with the detachment, assisting us in our efforts to ensure the safety of residents and visitors when large events occur in our community," Sgt. Chris Dodds of the Revelstoke RCMP detachment said in the release.
