Teen shows up at school after extensive search effort

KAMLOOPS — Nearly 19 hours after a teenager took off from her family in a remote area near Chase and seemingly disappeared she showed up at school in time for her first class.

Kamloops Search and Rescue Search Manager Alan Hobler says the 13-year-old girl had walked away from the family car around 4 p.m. on Thursday. Several hours later the family called RCMP when they were unable to find her.

Shuswap Search and Rescue was brought in for the search, which took place near Talking Rock Golf Course, and by 4 a.m. Kamloops rescuers were asked to assist. In total 22 ground searchers, a helicopter, a SAR dog and an RCMP dog all aided in the search.

Shortly before 9 a.m. the family was alerted to the fact the girl had shown at her school in time for class. She had apparently spent the night at a friend's house, though the friend had denied her being there when asked the evening before.
