Meeting different needs for different breeds at Vernon dog park
Little dogs don't always seem to know they're little until they're around the big dogs.
It's often a source of tension when little Chihuahuas and Yorkshire terriers get into a one-size-fits-all dog park with hyperactive Great Danes or Rottweilers but the Regional District of North Okanagan has found a solution.
They've created a small park for small dogs at Mutrie Dog Park in Vernon.
“The new section at Mutrie Dog Park will provide a fenced section for small furry friends that are not comfortable around mid and large-sized dogs,” the Regional District of North Okanagan said in a press release. “Dogs of all sizes, including small dogs, are welcome throughout the rest of the park.”
Upon completion of construction, which will begin in the fall, the upgraded dog park will include fencing, access gates, a garbage bin, dog bag dispenser and signage to identify the space.
More plans are in the works after the small dog section has been added. Future improvements plans include more updated signage, planting and irrigation projects, trail re-surfacing, water fountains, and a permanent washroom.
