1,986 new B.C. COVID cases over weekend; 414 in Interior Health

An average of 138 Interior Health residents tested positive for COVID-19 from Friday to Sunday for a total of 414.

In B.C. as a whole, 1,986 people tested positive, including 617 from Friday to Saturday, 707 from Saturday to Sunday and 662 in the last 24 hours, according to a news release from the Ministry of Health issued today, Oct. 4.

There were 782 new cases in the Fraser Health region over the weekend, 346 in the Northern Health region, 226 in Vancouver Coastal and 218 on Vancouver Island.

Ten more people died of the disease, one of whom was in the Interior Health region. That brings the pandemic death toll to 1,983.

There are 5,986 active cases with 326 people in hospital, 142 of whom are in intensive care. There are 1,132 active cases in Interior Heath.

The vaccination rate for those over the age of 12 continues to climb, reaching 88.2% with one dose while 81.6% of B.C. residents have received two doses.
