Kamloops motel evacuated, searched following gun shot report

RCMP investigations at two Kamloops motels occurred around the same time on Monday morning, but they were unrelated incidents.

On Oct. 4, Kamloops RCMP and Southeast District emergency response team responded to the Motel 6 in Valleyview after a gunshot was reported, according to a Kamloops RCMP press release.

They arrived at the motel around 10:45 a.m. and remained on the scene for nearly five hours to evacuate and search each room.

No injuries nor signs of a gun shot were found and the emergency response team left around 3:30 p.m. to hand the investigation over to Kamloops RCMP.

Traffic was disrupted along the Trans-Canada Highway service road while police investigated, and the nearby Kamloops Kidz daycare at Ralph Bell Elementary was placed on hold and secure.

Earlier that morning, Kamloops RCMP surrounded a motel on the 1300 block of Columbia Street to locate and arrest a man who was wanted on a warrant.

Police formed a perimeter around the motel at 9 a.m. They laid a spike belt and blocked alleys and exits from the parking lot, later taking the suspect into custody around 11:30 a.m.

Tristan Fernandez, 25, was in relation to a robbery on Aug. 3.

Police did not say if there were any arrests in the Valleyview Motel 6 incident.
