Snow warning issued for Thanksgiving weekend for Interior highways
Snow is on its way this weekend and drivers are being warned that they may see up to 15 centimetres on the Coquihalla, Okanagan Connector and Trans-Canada Highway.
A special weather statement was issued this afternoon, Oct. 8, by Environment Canada for the Coquihalla from Hope to Kamloops, the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna and Highway 1 from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass.
“A frontal system moving across the British Columbia Interior will give snow to most southern highway passes during the Thanksgiving long weekend. Precipitation from the system will start as rain on Saturday afternoon, and then as snow levels drop, it will change to snow on Saturday night or Sunday morning. The snow is expected to continue through Sunday evening,” according to the weather statement.
Highways will see between 10 to 15 cm of snow, according to Environment Canada.
To report severe weather, residents can send an email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
Road conditions are available through DriveB.C.
Winter tires or chains are required on most routes in British Columbia from Oct. 1 to April 30.
