Protest against high power bills
WEST KELOWNA – A group of moms and concerned citizens gathered in front of Premier Christy Clark’s West Kelowna riding office today to protest what they say are exorbitant power bills.
Shannon Christensen, one of the speakers at the rally, Saturday, March 14 said hundreds of women in her non-profit group Mamas for Mamas have been hit especially hard.
“I’ve had so many people contact me asking what they’re going to do about their Fortis bill or their B.C. Hydro bill,” she said in an interview before the rally. “A lot of families are getting hit with bills up to $2,000 for two months and they just can’t pay it.”
She said of her 2,200 members, at least 600 have noticed spikes in their bills.
The group has also started a petition you can sign at this website.

Funny isn’;t it.We had the warmest January, February and my usage went up by 2.5 GJ for that period on my fortis Bill somy gas cost more for then than it did for the previous 4 months. What the f**K is going on.I am going to sit down and compare the last few month cause I think something is really fishy about this.

Our last bill was over $800.00 for 2 months. When I asked about it the person on the phone said that we had use 1000 kw more than we had used the year before. We have not done anything different. We couldn’t pay that. The bills from Feb 2014 til Dec was $350.00 everytime. we are on a fixed income.
