Harlem Globetrotters will be slam dunking in Penticton

The laws of physics are always left behind when the Harlem Globetrotters come to town.

The world-famous Globetrotters are launching a world tour and will be stopped at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton on Jan. 25, 2022.

Every performance by the basketball team features an entire game of non-stop highlight reel moves. And the players have reimagined their show for the 2021-2022 season with the Spread Game tour.

The Globetrotters combine the culture of New York City streetball with wholesome family entertainment, according to a South Okanagan Events Centre media release. Instead of training to be competitive, these athletes focus on making the game as spectacular as possible.

Team members pride themselves on being ambassadors of goodwill – and as an organization that exhibits Black excellence on and off the court, this year’s tour will focus more on conversations about social justice.

The team has been playing since 1926, and they helped popularize the slam dunk. During past visits to Penticton, players were active in the community by visiting local schools to play wheelchair basketball and to deliver messages of anti-bullying

Tickets go on sale Oct. 21 for the Globetrotters’ game at the South Okanagan Events Centre, Jan. 25. and cost between $20 and $75 at ValleyFirstTix.com or at the box office.
