Central Okanagan regional district board chair not seeking re-election

The chair of the Regional District of Central Okanagan board will not be seeking re-election.

Gayle Given said today, Oct. 14, she is not resigning, but will not be seeking the role for the next term. A chair and vice-chair are elected annually from amongst the board members.

“I have served in the role for the last seven years and I’ve been planning some family time in the coming years that I think will really take away from my ability to do the board chair role,” she said.

With a daughter in Germany and another daughter getting married, she said can’t fulfil the role of chair and focus on family.

Given made the announcement this morning during a regional district board meeting. She will remain on the board as a director for Kelowna.

The 13 members of the board represent the two electoral areas, Central Okanagan East and Central Okanagan West, and the Central Okanagan’s municipalities.

Board members will elect a new chair and vice-chair, Nov. 4.
