Campfire in downtown Kelowna sparks car fire

KELOWNA – Someone built a campfire next to a car on outside the Level nightclub in downtown Kelowna early this morning, and the car caught on fire.

Fire crews were called to 275 Leon Ave. at about 2:50 a.m., Sunday, March 15, arriving to find the car fire had just spread to the adjacent building.

Kelowna Fire Department platoon Capt. Eric Simpson says the blaze was knocked down quickly and it was contained to the car and the outside of the building.

The car is a write-off, but the outside of the nightclub was only scorched.

“The cause of the fire was a small campfire that was set between the car and building for warmth,” Simpson says in a media release.

RCMP were on the scene this morning, but no word yet from police about the investigation.
